Allies Haiti and Panama not to support Taiwan's UN bid
海地、巴拿馬不支持台灣入聯提案
Two more of Taiwan's allies – Haiti and Panama – have decided not to support Taiwan's participation in the United Nations.
台灣又有兩個邦交國-海地及巴拿馬決定不支持台灣加入聯合國的提案。
Haiti and Panama's decision follows a similar announcement from Paraguay that it would not support Taiwan's UN bid this year. Taiwan's foreign ministry expressed regret over the news, but said that diplomatic relations with the countries remain unchanged.
On Thursday a foreign ministry official in charge of Central and South American Affairs, Diego Chou, said that Haiti's decision is understandable.
外交部中美洲司副司長 周麟在星期四表示,海地的決定是可以理解的。
"Haiti's president and foreign minister have all told us that they have not been able to give us any public support over UN issues because the country relies on a UN peacekeeping mission to maintain order," said Chou.
